security templates in 2003

having just had some shiny new 2003 servers installed the company that did them have locked them down for us using the sec templates u get with 2003 using group policies.

question is how many people use this - is this how it should be? am asking as theyre a right pain in the arse when it comes to installing new things and am sure theyre responsible for a few "funnies" that are happening. but then dont want to take them off if thats how it should be re security?

Security is allways a ballance between things working and things not working... how often will you be adding things to this server and how important is security to you on this box?
