Do I need 2 7800gtx
Discussion
I could be wrong, but I remember reading that one 7800GTX was faster than two 6800 Ultras.
Based on ths I would guess that right now you likely wont need two, but could add a second in a years time for a fraction of the cost now, and then get the performance for the next couple of years games.
I figured I'd get two cheap cards, and whack in two much better ones in a year or so, so that my PC isn't obsolete so quickly!

waste of money really in my opinion. but if you have money to waste then fair enough.
i have one 7800gtx and its perfect for the latest games.
rather than buy two, why not just get the latest model in a years time, which will probably be much faster than the 7800gtx (which will be old technology by then)

I have two. It's a bit of an indulgence, but I bought one of the Dell 2405 24" lcds at the same time and with two 7800GTXs, I can play Half-Life 2 at the monitor's native resolution of 1920x1200 with 4xAA and 16xAF. With one, I would have to ratchet down the AA and AF.
You would lose little performance, but save a decent sum by buying two 7800GTs instead of GTXs.

What screen are you using ?
If your using a large crt or tft with resultions of 1600*1200 or higher than 2 7800gtx would help you run games on these at absolute max settings
If your using a 17 or 19 tft that only has a 1200*1024 then a second 7800gtx would be throwing money down the drain because a single 7800 gtx has more than enough power to run that resolution.

so would it be worth getting the extra card on this PC?

Could the screen be good enought to run high resolution

a 20" screen will almost certainly have a 1600x1200 resolution
a single 7800 gtx will play most games at this res on medium/high settings.
2x 7800gtx's will almost certainly play any of todays games at ultra high settings.
have a look at some of the benchmarks on comparing sli and single 7800gtx's
