problems with uploading a web page.
Discussion
Now this is an odd one.
I normally use MS FrontPage 2003 for simple web design, and then use Cute FTP6 to upload the files to the site. But some reason i can' upload and page with tables in it. When trying to upload the progress bar shows 99% and the status of the upload changes from transferring to waiting until i cancel the operation. Anyone have any ideas as to why a page can't be uploaded if there is table inserted into it?
thanks

Does it work if you upload the file without the table?
I can't believe for one moment that the table is causing a problem, as it's a file you are uploading - the contents of which are irrelevant. Having said that could be a Frontpage odditie (never used it).
What if you create a page with a table only - will that upload?
What if you copy/paste the file to a different filename - will that upload?
You could email the file(s) to me and I can upload them to my own site if that helps - to test that the file(s) are ok.

- The page will upload if its only a table
- If i copy and paste it will not upload
- i have tried it on my NTL server and its still the same thing.
I have also uninstalled and re-installed the FTP software although this made no difference and i have also ran "detect and repair" in Frontpage 2003 and this has made no difference.
what about using different ftp programs.
use the command line ftp in windows or you can use IE.
command line ftp goes like this
Fire up command prompt
ftp insert.your.ftp.server.address.com [enter]
enter username and password when prompted
if you need to change directory on the remote server type
cd "directory path" [enter]
if you need to change directory on the local computer to get to the file you wish to upload type
lcd "local directory path"
type
binary [enter] (files get transfered as is with no auto linefeed or conversion going on).
to send the file type
put "filename"
to quit type
bye
help gets help
( sorry if you knew how to suck that egg
)
IE
in the address bar enter ftp://your.ftp.server.address.com
if it errors goto file menu then click login as and put your username and password in.
drag and drop works with this, as does copy and paste.
(bit flakey but works most of the time).
Or dowload ftp explorer from download.com - small, free and simple but limited. (doesn't do entire folders very well)
I thought frontpage had built in ftp publishing in the file menu? I don't use frontpage but this rings a bell

Well i can only put it down to the host. Thanks for all your help (Kinky and all). I have managed to upload the file to my NTL page without any problems and Kinky was able to do so as well. I am still using CuteFTP 6 and there were no problems.
So i am now closing down my account with the current host and will be looking for a new one to transfer to.
thanks again

edited to add that current host support was utter shite and tried to fob me off, hence the reason why i'm moving.
