Orange SPV M2000 and Sat Nav
Discussion
Just looking at upgrading my phone to an SPV M2000, firstly anyone got one on here that can give me an unbiased opinion, secondly I wanted to try and use the handset with some form of navigation software (Tom Tom?) anyone done this? if so how easy is it to set up and use? and where could I find the software.
I am a complete technical idiot!
Thanks in advance for your help

Tom Tom MOBILE 5 has been due for release for a while now. Personally, I'm waiting for that as others seem to have had less than favourable reviews.
A selection of Mobile GPS software can be found at www.expansys.com/d_gps.asp

Whats the operating system on the M2000?
If its Pocket PC theres a few that will work. External bluetooth GPS, jobs a goodun.

Sorry, only just seen this.
Honest advice? Don't get one. I've had mine for six months and despite its wonderful functionality it's a pain in the arse. There are several major bugs in the firmware (unless they've been fixed in later models and they haven't been kind enough to release it to us poor suffering fools!) and as ever Microsoft have been too busy getting a newer, more wonderful and all-singing-and-dancing version out the door rather than fixing the problems in the current release.
These bugs range from irritating to show stopping and include:
1. When picking up an incoming call you get no sound - they can hear you, but you can't hear them. Solution: soft reset.
2. Bluetooth cannot be switched on due to lack of driver memory. Solution: soft reset.
3. SD memory cards cannot be seen by the operating system after a variable length of time. Helpful when your using the satnav from a card in the car. Solution: take a wild guess...
4. Serious hardware design flaw: doing a soft reset it is easy to accidently do a hard reset. To do a soft reset you use the stylus to push the reset button in a hole in the bottom. It's quite stiff so you have to brace at the top in your hand. On the top is the power button. If you press this while pressing the reset button it does a hard reset and reverts to fresh from the factory settings and all your data goes bye-bye...
Found this out the hard way.
They're the main ones I can think of off the top of my head. Number 1 is a real pain if you've got an important client calling

I've got ths T-Mobile MDAIII version of this phone, same thing, same REALLY CRAP faults as listed above.
I cannot imaging it running at all well on anything complicated. The bluetooth struggles to connect within 1m let alone a handsfree device or a GPS receiver. Plus to have the phone functioning without going off in your pocket you'll need to set it to screen off & pin code after 30 secs which means it'll be crap.
Its crap as phone as it drops calls & loses the mic 1 in 5 calls which is way way too many.

Have you found somewhere in the UK that you can actually buy this then?
Everywhere I've looked seems to only have it on pre-order.

Thanks for the replys, looks like a non starter then, will prob opt for a dedicated satnav unit, and upgrade my handset to the Sony K750i
Dont know if you saw my comments in the other forum, but the combination is blooming good. Bennusing it all weekend and im very impressed.
I've not got the SVP M500, i nearly did but opted for the C550 instead. I've had the original spv followed by the spv e200 and now c550, all cool phones in my opinion(once you get used to them).
Check out www.coolsmartphone.com they have lots of reviews, and updates that can be downloaded to fix bugs and improve the phones.
