The way I've always done it was as follows:

Locate the Store Folder (you can find out where that is in the Maintenence tab in Tools > Options)

In there you'll see a load of files which are your inbox, outbox, sent items, and any of your own folders in OE.

All you need to do is back that lot up onto a CD (or wherever), and bob is indeed your uncle.

Not sure if that explains it very well. Just shout if you need more help

As above Outlook express stores all the folders seperately under an identitiy as dbx files. Either find them through outlook or just do a search for *.dbx files. Copy all these to your removable media and once you have your new PC up and running recopy them back over the new empty dbx files.

Note this will not save your addresses or account settings. Account settings will need to be re added and address should be exported using file export into a csv file which again you can re import into the new copy.

Hope that clears it up, Just make sure you copy the right dbx files and keep a copy of you addresses.

I'd strongly recommend that you move to the full version of Outlook - much easier to backup and store old e-mails

Why can't e-mails be saved, copied, pasted etc like other data files, Word docs etc? EG if you have a new font, you just shove it in the Fonts folder, and so on.

Every time time I change PC I seem to lose most if not all my e-mails!

Easiest way to change over is to open Outlook Express first, then open the full version of outlook and it will ask you if you want to import the settings and messages from Outlook Express..... Jobs a goodun
