Hi Guys,

Can anyone point me in the direction of respectable places to buy a few domain names .co.uk and a .com. Looked at Easily but the .com's are £35 for 2 years, and other sites such as UKreg and register1.net are offering these at much lower prices.

Basically need to point these domains at a personal web server for now then move to the hosting company that will host the site when we go live in the future, so no 'transfer out' issues (like charges!) if possible, that'll mean the domain will belong to us and not the registering company.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
James

I'd go with Register1. Run by a fellow PH'er.

I'm certainly happy with their service. I used to be with Easily, but I put my new stuff with Register1 now, since Easily's prices just aren't competitive.

heheh

Thanks Gents

£5.48 for .com .net .org .uk (2 yrs on uk!)

No transfer out fees.

Full Control of the domain (and transfers) in your control panel.

No hidden fees, and some cheap hosting too! (2gb space, 100gb per month traffic from £66 pa!)

All proceeds happily placed towards a lovely piece of PH exotica.. and anyone attending BTaP will get the chance to say Hi

Thanks chaps,

I'll look into Register1 a little more and discuss with my colleague.

Unfortunately, I'm looking at ColdFusion hosting at the moment as were both happy developing with CF, but if you know of any suitable hosts Jamie

Cheers

www.Register1.net/servers.php

Run your wildest fantasies on that server

Cheap as chips at half the price!

CF is a powerful little language, but a little 'out of favour' amongst the large scale hosting outfits.

Either way, Reg1 for the win

I may be contacting you sooner than I thought then
I still have no idea how much bandwidth I'm using/going to use. FYI I've got about 3 months I've paid for still to run. Hey ho, uploading again soon!

Dont have to throw it away, consider it an Upgrade cost

Could always use it for backup space, or donate it to a local charity, or let the <insert someone here> use it!

Unlimited Databases, you're capped on Disk Space, and the number of actual databases you have doesnt matter to me I;ve seen places charge £100 a DB

The Pro is the one to go for if you've got the spare Beer Tokens tho

Its Sexy!

Fine thanks, just a couple of quick ones to turn my sleep cycle upside down.

Wedged you out a bit ago, just trying to get 1and1 to transfer the ips tags. I've got shitloads for my money, and the best bit is it's cheaper than where I was.
Stupidly tried to ftp the whole site up...doh! it might have worked if the ips tags had cleared and having some problems with mysql database backup.

...nose to the grindstone eh ?

You can FTP to the IP still if you want to get the site up.

Let me / my support team know if you have any issues with the MySQL reimport (easyest way is to upload the SQL dump and raise a support ticket to have it imported by our support staff for you!)
