Is there such a thing ?

All my life I've never been able to get my head round any language, it started with BASIC at school, I was lost from the word go and then machine code, well might as well have been hieroglyphics.

I did an engineering degree at Uni, part of which was computing, first language was Pascal and again right from the off I was lost. I even had remedial lessons which didn't help and 6809 was the stuff of nightmares. 3 years later and more languages like C++ and I still hadn't a clue.

Anyone else suffer from this ?

Point of this is I want to build my own site and most peeps say learn HTML, now that's going to be a non-starter for me I know so it's out. I've also heard that Frontpage is not much cop, can anyone recommend something ?

Dreamweaver. Although it would be nice to learn html, you can still build a very presentable site without really knowing what's underneath.

There's no doubt that some people just aren't wired with the right sort of logic - maybe that includes you, maybe it doesn't. Try working your way through some of the HTML / CSS stuff on w3schools.

Dreamweaver is cool because you can see the HTML as you go on. This way you can pick up the HTML easily. So I am told. I have never been able (read be ar*ed) to learn a programming language. That is what I have a business partner for. Although I am starting Dreamweaver soon.

Depends on what you want it to do. It's great for throwing together a quick website, so long as you don't mind the cognoscenti taking one look at it and saying "that's been done in FrontPage". See www.corrado-vr6.info as an example.

Dreamweaver gives you much more freedom and that's what I use these days, but of course with increased freedom comes the requirement for increased knowledge. Dreamweaver does not hold your hand the same way.

I really should get round to redoing my Corrado site with Dreamweaver.

Yes I think I'll give Dreamweaver a go. As for HTML well I struggle to put together ebay adverts lol, if it's anything like that.

I really am just not cut out for any sort of programming, if computer programming is how dyslexics feel about word blindness then I can sympathise.

HTML really is a piece of piss.

Dreamweaver MX is good and gets you a long way quickly but its a big development environment that can be daunting when you are starting off.

CuteHTML maybe worth a look...

So should I really have a go at this html then ? given that I struggle even with ebay ads.

Incidentally at Uni I also did 4 years of advanced differential/integral calculus and other maths which was my strongest point but couldn't even put together a 10x10 asterisk matrix in Pascal to save my life.

I quite like GI Jnr's site, what was that done with ?

Just switched on this post count thing that apperas under your name, 25000 odd posts chrikey don't know exactly what you do for a living Matt but it sounds like a cushy number

It's a popular misconception that you need to know HTML in order to put together a web site. Tools like FrontPage and Dreamweaver can entirely insulate you from raw HTML and allow you to create your site graphically if you so wish.

Hilts - I'm the same. absolutely, totally, hopeless at programming despite trying for a long time. I came to the conclusion that it was just not for me.

HTML on the other hand is nothing like programming & really is very straightforward. The tags basically cover positioning & formatting of stuff & thats about it. IMO the most complex it gets is with CSS or Javascript, & there are scripts on the net to do pretty much everything anyway.

I use 1st Page HTML - it's free & has a preview pane so you can see the effects of what you are doing immediately. CuteHTML is also a good piece of kit.

Have you checked out functional languages (eg. Haskell)?
