Whats Faster

I'm trying to backup my pc files onto an external hard drive - I can either do it via ethernet or USB 1 (dont have USB 2 on my machine :mad:

What would you recommend.

Ethernet is way quicker than USB1.

Alternatively, you could just open the PC case and plug the HD directly onto a spare IDE, if you have one.

cheers - not sure about opening the case - knowing my luck i will break something !! what sort of transfer rate (MB per sec) do you get from usb1?

USB1.1 runs at about 1.5MB per second. backing up by ethernet would be better

I agree, unless you purchase a USB 2 card (means opening up your PC though). USB 2 is the same speed as firewire, 480MB/s.
