Quick question for the PH knowledgebase...

Just got a new machine (with XP Home pre-installed) but I need it to run Win2k Server (MSDN subscription).

The machine has a SATA disk, and the standard Win2k CD install doesn't have appropriate drivers, and cant find any disks, so can't install.

Any suggestions?

(If I go to Win 2003 server, will this have the same problem?)

TIA...

have used the F6 third party driver install and it still doesn't find the disks? If so check your BIOS to see if it has ATA -> sata conversion. I found this by accident on one of our compaqs during a 2000 server test install I expected it not to find the disk but missed the F6 prompt while looking for the driver disk and when I turned round it was half installed

Arggh. It gets worse. I copied the XP drivers onto a CD to reinstall under Win2k (Readme says OK for Win2k Advanced server). Win2k boots, F6 asks for drivers - but it will only read drivers from A: - and the machine doesn't have a floppy, only DVD/CD.

Any other suggestions?

2003 should pick up SATA I can't say that I've tried but I would expect it to.

Doh. I've got one of those from an old laptop, never thought about it.

Brain not really in gear this morning.

Got a bit further with the BIOS setting switching it to ATA too.

Thanks for the pointer...
