I've had this CCTV unit installed and it's really noisy.

It has a fan running constantly, which is quite loud and annoying.

I would perhaps expect a few clicks and and a bit of whiring, while it records stuff, perhaps?

Is this normal?

Thanks

Yes. There are designed to be hidden hence the lack of care taken to ensure quietness

Thanks all. I'll have it moved (or replaced!)

They are really annoying because like dashcams, there is not really much to them. But as most of us aren't software creators. We have to live with the stty hardware it comes paired with.

Using a bit of Dynamat can help deaden vibration, and perhaps squaring a small section of loft if available may keep them cool and quiet.
OK, thanks

Was just going to say that! Noctua have started doing small fans for 1U servers now. Take the lid off, measure the fan and order in a nice VC quiet Noctua replacement.

I disconnected the fan in my Hik NVR 5 years ago. It and the WD drive are still going strong.
