I run a wireless network at home and when I go to get on it my wireless 'bit' of the laptop picks up two signals, mine and another one called "FBI Snooper"

Does anyone know what that is?

Cheers

Very good, I somehow think that if it was the FBI they would be a little bit more careful about what they called it

On the other hand though......

Sounds like you're just picking up someone else's network too.

All WiFi encryption is breakable. Bust into his network and drop a text document on his desktop suggesting the FBI are watching HIM

Just google AirSnort or AirCrack and hey presto.

The helicopter thing is very funny though

Something I never got about WLAN :

- If I don't broadcast my SSID then my laptop can't access the WLAN.

- Most of the time when I boot up the laptop it can't see the laptop and I have to toggle the WLAN setting on my router (Vigor 2600WE)

What gives? Using 128-bit WEP and MAC addressing so should be reasonably safe. That and most people in my block of flats have problems using a kettle let alone a computer, and there is at least 1 totally unprotected WLAN within range!

Only the 1. I have 6 within range. All of them called LinkSys-G. I think CompUSA had a sale on LinkSys routers...
