I've done this before loads of times, but having trouble now for some reason.

I have one of those Orange fax numbers that then forwards to another machine.

Have tried on 2 PCs with 2 modems and 2 OSes and still the same result - faxmodem picks up, handshakes, and drops the call :(

Any reasons why? I can't see a way of slowing down the connection speed, only the modem communication speed.

It has worked at the flat before, even unplugged all unnecessary stuff so it was the REN getting too high.

Not much to go on, I know, but I can't see what its problem is. Have had broadband on this line for 2 years. Just been upgraded to 2MB if that makes a difference (hasn't made a noticeable one to my download speeds )

Help!

I receive my faxes in exactly the same way (orange number then forwarded on to my pc) and ive had this problem a couple of times and not been able to rectify it.

I had to get the faxes re-sent.

Not much help i know ... sorry

Can't help with why yours isn't working correctly but I use one of the free fax number options from this lot,

www.dmclub.net/

just converts fax to email and drops in as pdf to inbox along with other emails. Cost is also soaked up by person sending the fax as it is a k-rated call so slightly higher than normal and the provider just gets a small kickback from BT (or telecomms provider) - Loads of other people with similar products so may be better ones out there but have been happy with this lot myself.

Not much use if you don't fancy changing your fax number however i.e. if its on stationary or a lot of people already have it etc

Thanks, that's useful!

Don't use my fax number much so doesn't matter if I change it. I have been trying to sign up for Demon's as I use their broadband - got my password wrong 3 times and they locked me out though No warning, and you can get the webmail p/w wrong as many times as you like

I've tried sending it to a fax machine at a different number today with the same result - clearly Orange is just being a bit shit - as the previous poster said I think the only way to sort would be to get it faxed again...
