New phone for father under £200

Looking at replacing my fathers old Huawei so was looking at maybe the Motorola G54 as a replacement.
Any feedback on it or others to consider?
He only uses it for photos now and again, receiving texts etc, dont really want to get him one of the old persons phones though but it would probably suit him better tbh!

The Motorola's are great cheap phones, I recently bought a G14 for my 88 year old Mum. Simple to use, great battery life (5000mA), and they do everything they need to.
will second Motorola, any of the cheap ones will do way more than he needs, i have one and its been brilliant.richhead said:

There are so many model numbers but i will take a look at the range and see which one looks suitable.
The G54 is £140 in Argos so not too bad really and it seemed to get decent reviews online.

I got my Mum a Motorola G84 not so long ago. Seems a good bit of kit for the money although I would caution that Motorola have added some crap software in these more recent models that they never used to do. There was one particularly annoying one that tried to railroad you into installing unwanted apps that took me a couple of attempts to stop
Samsung A25 is a great phone, I recently bought 2 one for my wife and other for my daughter.
The only thing I would say is I paid £150 each on Amazon brand new and they currently have them at about £200 as a Black Friday sale price, don’t know how they get away with it when I only bought them a couple of weeks ago. It is a very good phone for the money though and 5G

I have a G54 5G 8GB/256GB as my daily, it's ok and for the price I can't complain.
Remember that Motorola have a habit of giving only a 2 year shelf life for OS updates, the G54 has already been replaced by the G55.
The G54 comes with Android 13 as standard and mine has recently updated to Android 14 but that's where the support ends, it won't be getting Android 15.
Apart from the increasingly annoying bloatware which Motorola keep adding to the phone if you're not careful with every OS update, it's fairly clean to use. The main camera isn't great but it's certainly passable.
The proximity sensor and the fingerprint sensor can have a bit of a mind of their own. You can be reading the screen and it suddenly darkens as it thinks you're not active, or the fingerprint sensor goes a bit wild and ignores your repeated attempts to fingerprint unlock. Deep breath, unlock with password and you're away again.
My version has one physical sim card slot and an eSim capability for the second sim. A bit annoying when coming from two physical sim card phones as I had to swap one of my sims for an eSim.
Other than that, it's a cheap and affordable phone.
I also bought a G14 for my children to use, it's fine for their purposes for a few basic games of Roblox and youtubing but it's much much slower than the G54.

You can get a SIM free Google Pixel 8a (plus claim free Pixel Buds) for just under £230 from EE right now, provided you have access to either a student, a blue light card holder or an existing EE customer to trigger the promotion.
It's a little over your budget, but the buds may make up for that and it's a generally very well thought of midrange Android phone with a good camera.
