any host can provide a secure folder for you, you can even do it yourself using something like a htaccess file within the directory and giving out username/passwords to the users.

The problem with using an offsite server for your forum won't be the 40mb of storage but the amount of data you'll be transferring - I remember reading an article which said a popular forum is the 2nd biggest eater of resources and bandwidth after chat programs.

Could you not look into getting the hosting done internally on one your servers - it'd be a darn sight cheaper in the long run IMO.

If you are hosted on a linux server you can use .htaccess and .htpasswd files, this gives you your classic sign in functionality

Some places Will even give you a nice web front end to the Text world of .htaccess

You simply click on the folder you want to secure (in your control panels security section) then type in the username / password(s) that you want to be able to access it. Simple.
