Getting the most out of Google Maps/Earth

Like if I'm on Street-View and I want to walk down the road it seems I'm often unable to get exactly where I want to be, either just before, or just after. Or I can't seem to get down the road at a speed I'd like. Either zooming miles down the street in one go, or excruciatingly slow little increments...
You have to appreciate that you are viewing a series of static 360 degree photos so you can only view from where a photo was taken.nuyorican said:
I think Google Maps/Earth is one of the most incredible things. I use it all the time, but I often find it a frustrating experience trying to navigate around. Is it just how it is? Or is it me, or my internet speed? Like if I'm on Street-View and I want to walk down the road it seems I'm often unable to get exactly where I want to be, either just before, or just after. Just now I'm using Google Earth. Trying to go down a nearby railway line. I've somehow got myself looking straight down at the tracks and can't get back out to be looking along the rails and going forward. It's maddening! Is it me? Or is there any shortcuts/tips and tricks to be learnt to get the most out of it?
OP, I'm just curious. Do you go back through your threads and delete your initial messages? When I view your previous topics your original posts all seem to have been deleted.Just now I'm using Google Earth. Trying to go down a nearby railway line. Yes, I do like to keep a reasonably tidy house. I hadn't considered it might affect other's use of the forum. Is there anything I can help with specifically?
So a handy reminder for everyone to quote your opening posts to enable threads to make any sense when someone might want to add to it in the future instead of starting a new one.Yes, I do like to keep a reasonably tidy house.
