My Mum's iCloud account has been locked and we are trying to reset it.

The pop-up on her iMac screen gave a "reset password" button which opened up iforgot.apple.com.

We followed the process, entering her icloud email address and then the phone number linked to the account, and it says the account will be reviewed, which will take about a day, and then they will contact her on her icloud email address.

The problem is that we have no access to the icloud email address, as Apple as locked access to it.

Am i being daft, or is Apple really going to send information to unlock an account to in inaccessible account? banghead

I think it's a scam. Those details are noted on the Web as being a scam associated to apple.

I thought it might be a scam, but the iforgot.apple.com link is genuine. And this didn't come from an email, it was a pop-up notification on her desktop.

Does she have other Apple devices? Is it working on them? Can she log-in on another non Apple device?

This is genuine; my wife had the same issue

They emailed her to her Gmail address FYI and it was sorted within a few days

No, just got an old Mac she uses for email and Facetime. I tried logging in on a Mac at work, but the account is locked.
