Had to re-format and sort out my PC (twice after a nasty Trojan attack) now I am back to a clean install with two partitions.

Problem is at one stage I loaded XP onto the D: partition and now when I boot up the system gives me a choice of which operating system to use even though there is no longer anything on D:

How do I delete this choice?

Cheers
Nick

There's a hidden read only file in the root of your C: drive called boot.ini. Unflag the read only and take out the line to the OS you don't want.
It should look something like this if you want to bot to the primary drive on your first controller:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

Start>Right Click My Computer, select properties

Advanced Tab

Startup and Recovery

Click the settings button

On that dialog hit the edit button

Then in that text file in notepad delete the line with the one you want to get rid of, save that file, job done.

As they are both called the same, how do I n=know which one is C and which one D

That's assuming its not contained in the line.

Post the contents up here and someone will tell you which one..... One line should say default. If it does, that's the one you want to keep. (Assuming it normally boots to the correct OS if left untouched)

Nick

Edited to accept that you have already answered this and I should take out the one that does not match the default...D'oh
