Free broadband for a year
Discussion
A Community Fibre salesman has been in my street this week offering 12 months' free to new customers. I'm currently with TalkTalk but out of contract and paying far too much for just 35Mbps. The Community Fibre price for the second year is £21 per month for 300Mbps. No installation fee. So he came back today and I signed up. Will give it a try, must surely be an improvement.
Anyone else heard of a utility company offering one year free?

When I signed up to Lit fibre (coincidentally after leaving talktalk) I got 6 months free then £18pm for 100mb up and down, fixed price for 2 years. It's been pretty good too, speeds as advertised and the don't vary much. I have about 3 months left so let's see what they try and stiff me for or whether they will negotiate if it's a big rise they have in store.

Sounds like it’s a tag-on to the scheme that has been running in parts of London (for about 12mths so far) that’s part funded by the DWP in an effort try and bridge the digital poverty gap.
Maybe... seems an odd thing for the government to be subsidising - free broadband for people who already have access to OpenReach and Virgin...Anyway I'm not complaining - yet! Will see if there's some hidden downside to this deal.
