Also depends on network, as a 3g phone on O2 and vodafone should make calls and texts on 2g networks they have.
You really are best looking up the actual specs of the phone you have and then the current operator your on own website.. along with switch off dates.
But to be on the safe side, just get a new phone that does it all. You dont have to spend loads to have something capable of 4/5g.

Yes I'll be upgrading, but it's not convenient just now. You really are best looking up the actual specs of the phone you have and then the current operator your on own website.. along with switch off dates.

You'll still be able to get data whenever you're connected to a wifi network.
That wifi network could be 4G/5G phone acting as a hotspot.
E-GSM 2G data can be up to 100kbit/s, which can be 'adequate' for many things, provided you're not sharing that bandwidth with dozens of others.
Taking 10 seconds to get a map is way better than not getting it at all...

Could they turn off 5G as well (the most underwhelming communications tech of all time)... 4G did at least work....
I don't think anyone with a phone would ever notice what 5G can do. I use 5G for my home internet. It is far from underwhelming, in fact, the opposite. 750Mb down and 50Mb up. Its insane for a radio based data link. All for £20 a month inc. Unlimited.SteBrown91 said:

Not convenient? You aren’t buying a house it’s not a long process! Spend an hour looking at what you want, order it and it’s delivered a few days later.jesusbuiltmycar said:

I don't get what's actually happened here. 4g was great, really fast, almost everywhere. Now though the phone is desperate to show 5g and when it does it barely works.

Agree... My phone shows 5G often and is slower... I do wonder about the network. Used to be on Vodafone and was just generally very happy. Switched to EE for "best" 5G network and now seem to be stuck with slower performance!
5G is very dependent on line of sight. Being "connected" on 5G doesn't mean you'll get fast data - it needs to be a "good" connection. As frequencies get higher, the are less able to penetrate solid objects. The big issue with 5G is not enough coverage, so your conections is often a poor one, and your phone will favour 5G over 4G even though 4G might be a lot faster.Griffith4ever said:
