Has anybody recently purchased anything in LGW duty free or know pricing?

Flying from LGW and not sure if it'll be any better than purchasing in the US.

Thanks

Every single duty free I’ve been to in the UK has been a rip off. Its usually cheaper to buy in regular shops,

Agreed for consumer electronics. It seems to have got worse over time as I can remember there being some decent bargains in the past (bought a MiniDisc portable at duty free many years ago).

Still some good prices on booze and ciggies though.

With electronics that are catching you in a captive market. You are on holinday, you forgot / need a GoPro / headphones for the flight, etc. Pay up buttercup.

Don't know if they still do it, but Amazon.com used to happily deliver to a hotel in the US, I saved a bunch when I was working in the US for extended periods of time back in the 201x's

can't beat their tobacco prices, the only issue is some airports are weird about you breaking the allowance rules but plenty in europe aren't bothered about you going over and even have self scan terminals

Just bought it in best buy, 250usd for the hero 13.

Do I throw the box or say I'm sentimental and brought it with me.

You could probably get away with saying you keep it in the box for protection if it’s that alone and you aren’t carrying loads of other stuff back at the same time you are trying to avoid duty on.

If you are risk averse then bin the box

This is the kind of overthinking that means you’re fked in the event you are the 0.0001% that your case is opened. You’ll tell them your life story whereas they really don’t care.

Your personal allowance is £390, so it really doesn't matter.

I always grab a Prime trial membership for the locale im visiting, and most countries have some form of locker or collection point you can use.

I binned the box, mainly because my son scraped it against a wall and it was scratched anyway never to be sold again lol.

I once sent a MacBook box back in the post years ago, bit of a silly thing to do but the USD was 2 to the pound and it just didn't matter.

Gatwick had zero customs officers waiting, guessing no flights seen as an easy target.
