Apple account recovery information please.
Discussion
In response to the recent large data release I foolishly thought it was a good idea to change my Apple password, but it was nearly 2am and I should have known better.
Anyway, cutting that miserable tale of miss-keying and being a complete doozy when I did it, Apple decided I was not who I said I was and put me into Account recovery after I clicked "Forgot Password" when I realised I had cocked up after several attempts of trying to use my new password
.
Apparently I am getting a text or phone call around 1 am tonight with instructions - However it is unlikely I will be awake then and definitely don't want to cock up again, so will this text or phone call simply say I can go ahead and change my password and a link which I can pick up the next day, or is it going to be more involved than that?
Cheers, off to have a nice sit down and cup of tea whilst the 21st century zooms off into the distance (Copyright Viz).

To answer your question-
‘If you don’t receive the text or call, after the period specified in the original email has ended, you can still go directly to apple.com/recover. Follow the instructions to regain access to your Apple Account.’

Cheers, went well this time!
I HATE Apple. Both my children have iPhones and last year my daughter had hers stolen. Could she remember the password to iCloud? Of course not.
This led to a fruitless attempt to validate the account using her other devices, but because they have so many different phones and change their PIN code every 5 minutes and forget it, this didn't work either.
In the end I had to put in a request to reset it using her phone number etc. and it took two weeks before I was finally able to reset it.
TWO WEEKS!
And breath

Or those who don’t forget there Apple ID & pass codes find it works well…This led to a fruitless attempt to validate the account using her other devices, but because they have so many different phones and change their PIN code every 5 minutes and forget it, this didn't work either.

Always someone else's fault...

I've an Apple ID, but not had an iOS device since 2018.
The Apple account was only logged into once or maybe twice since then. (Probably if I received previous emails about account inactivity or something).
A few months ago we decided to try Apple TV+ for a month or two.
As I hadn't signed in for years it informed me a mandatory account reset was necessary, and signing in using the old password wasn't permitted.. But without an Apple device to verify the account I had to wait something like 10 days or 14 days (can't remember which) for the confirmation email and SMS to authorise the account password reset.
I'm sure it deters fraudsters and those trying to compromise users accounts, but it seemed a bit excessive just to take out a subscription to an Apple service.
