I've had to do a claim with a famous Insurance company based on Wales under Travel Insurance (Gadget Cover).

Phone got damaged massively dropping out of ones pocket in Busch Gardens. Comical at what state it was in.

So I raised the claim about 10 days ago, they eventually have got to it.

On the claim form they asked for "A quote for repairs to be provided". I ignored it as I was abroad and also no idea how I'd get this thinking that when looking at the device it was clear repairs are going to be rather high.

Anyway, I get a call centre operative call me to again reiterate this yesterday, I told them to bgger off and escalate to someone to use the images and assess it again.

Another call today..."we need a quote or estimate"...

I've constantly asked who is acceptable to get this assessment (for me to run around for them doing their work).....no Clear answer whether I need to goto an approved place or some money laundering outfit writing it down on the back of a fag packet.

I get a mail with this;

1) You will need to get a quote for repairs to your device in person. We will not accept estimates carried our without physical inspection of the device. If your device cannot be repaired, we need a quote as evidence to show this.

When I go onto the Samsung repair site all they do is ask what's damage then provide costs and you pay up front, bgger that.

I contact Samsung and they do accept the device being sent in the post to be assessed, that'll be at my cost/inconvenience though.

Now I work for an insurer myself but this is the fking pits, how is it acceptable I run around getting self assessments and all of this, has anyone else had this aggro?

Can't you just take it into one of those phone repair places on the high st and get them to do a letter saying it's beyond repair. They might charge a fiver for the letter.

Timpsons actually do phone repairs now so will be taking it round there tomorrow as I've got one in our local supermarket that apparently does it.

Excess on gadget cover is 50 quid, contents on home insurance is 175 quid.

It's the fact they want me self assessing the device thats irritated me, and then if it's not repairable and they pay out they want the device themselves.

I get fraud is a huge issue but they only need to look at the photos to gauge the cost it's going to be and that it's practically unrepairable.

Got nowhere today on this.

Decided my only option as a Samsung store is 2 hours away will be send to repair it with Samsung, I've got it being collected for a repair with Samsung, they require validation before repairing the phone.

Timpson said they can do it, but not sure about them, I'll want peace of mind it's been done by Samsung tbh.

In all of this with the "Naval" named insurer is that they didn't even give a sht about the fact I'd have to pay for sending it recorded if the device got lost potentially.

They also take 20% depreciation off of the device payout if it's not repairable.

Never again.
