Android Phone for someone with poor eyesight and LD

As above really. As my parents have stopped driving - Dad has Parkinson's, Mum always hated it, and Dad wrote the car off - they're getting about on public transport a lot more.

For various reasons, my brother doesn't have his own smartphone. He has had periods in the past where deteriorating mental health meant that he made some poor choices around phone and internet use: downloading ringtones that cost £5 a day, making umpteen calls to premium numbers, that sort of thing. He has aspergers, autism, and a low iQ - so any smartphone has to be very simple to use.

I don't want an Apple as I've never used one and no doubt will be called upon to act as remote tech support.

He also has awful eyesight and poor dexterity. Unfortunately, where we are, the most reliable way of route planning on buses is using the First Bus app - otherwise I'd just get him an old Nokia.

Is there anything out there that anyone has experience of that will work?

You can set up most android smartphones in a simplified mode with larger text & icons and a simplified selection of apps. I've had to do it for my grandfather as his competence with his smartphone has waned. On Samsung phones it's called Easy Mode, on Google phones it's called Simple View, both will be easy to find in the settings.

Thanks both. I got my mum a Doro a few years ago and it does rather struggle with some apps so I like the idea of easy mode. I'll have a test on a spare handset

Could you try Google TalkBack on your spare Android to see if that offers the support needed?
