Broadband problem

Hi Chaps

Just installed plus.net broadband tonight, but ever since all my games such as Doom 3 and Half Life 2 refuse to load up whilst the broadband modem is installed. Doom 3 doesnt even need to connect to the Internet so I can't for the life of me work out what's causing these problems.

Edited to add that it also takes about 6-7 mins for the PC to shutdown, but there doesnt seem to be any programmes running in the task manager.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated as it's beginning to drive me nuts.
