I've ordered a Steam Deck OLED, but I've since seen there's a Legion Go S (512GB/Windows) for a couple of hundred pound less. Reviews have it getting better frame rates than the Steam Deck.

Am I better off sticking with the Steam Deck OLED, or should I save a couple of hundred quid and get the Legion Go S and install Steam OS on it instead of windows (apparently there's a 10% uplift in performance when you switch).

It looks like the Windows version is cheaper because it's Windows and not Steam OS. I'm assuming it's possible to install Steam OS on the Windows version as surely it's the same hardware? The Steam OS version is another £200.

The Windows version is usually more expensive because of the cost of Windows..... I'd check which APU the version you're looking at has versus the performance figures you've seen to make sure you're comparing the correct version.

You can (and probably should given the purpose of the device) install Steam OS on any Windows Legion Go. I have the older model Z1 Extreme version I put Steam OS on and added a 1tb SSD. From a FPS point of view it greatly outperforms a Steam Deck, but the deck does have a lovely OLED screen.
