Hi All,

Completely clueless on lots of this. We're just getting round to decorating the living room and we've a collection of numerous boxes and wires on the wall which are for previous internet and TV connections. The house had always been rented out and it seems they've been collected over the years. With 10 layers of paint to suit...

Which can we get rid of? We've just had fibre optic internet installed with Brsk (having left Virgin Media) and they've installed an 'ONT' box, and we don't have the TV tuned in to live TV and just use Netflix, Youtube etc.

The second question being... if we can remove any - How is the best way? I.e, do I need to cap off any cables and hide them within the wall etc?

Any help much appreciated !!

The white cable coming from the small wall box on the right previously ran into the back of the old Virgin router.
The white cable alone coming from the wall on the left has two screw-in type connectors on the end.

First one looks like a standard co-ax socket which connects to an aerial on the roof (or loft)

Second one could be a connection from a satellite dish or possibly an early internet connection.

Last one is an RJ45 socket for a landline phone (or modem...)

I only have an ONT 'box' so my answer would be to bin all of them off.

Top one is the old BT copper cable, I would leave it in place just in-case, but give the plate a clean up.

Second is a TV aerial connection, again I would keep for Freeview etc. Put a new plate on

Third is the Virgin cable. You'll likely have a connection outside which I would maintain in case you ever want virgin again. There is also a Sky dish twin cable coming through the wall, again keep if you're likely to want Sky, or pull it outside and coil it up.

Forth is a telephone extension, probably from the Virgin connection, you could bin that and remove the cable.
