Asset and License Management Software

[agent006]

Morning,

We're looking for a piece of software that will audit our PCs for software usage. Loads of them around but ideally we'd like it to distribute software to the PCs too.

Any ideas? We use SMS on our main client site but it doesn't quite do what we're after internally and it's slight overkill for a 200 PC network.

Also recommendations for software that does either audit or distribution would be useful.

Cheers

Visionsoft visual audit pro. Runs on login script, fully configurable and produces any reports you care to set up. It'll tell you what hardware is in the machines, software too and you can track changes from previous audits. You can produce a report to tell you how many installations of a particular item of software you have thereby letting you know if you have any unlicensed.

A site license is fairly cheap.

We've used Sassafras KeyServer - absolutely fantastic tool for software license control. I don't recall it being able to gob software down to clients though but its been a while since I've looked at it. Also does a full audit, truly cross platform, minimal impact on the network and full on reporting.

Another option (which pi$$es all over SMS) is Novell's ZenWorks - steep learning curve if you're not a Netware house though.
