Best / most cost effective SIM set up

Many years ago I had a PlayStation with a couple of driving games.
I quite like the idea of a pucker sim, any advice on a set up that is reasonably realistic?

Direct drive wheel. Can get wheel/pedal starter bundles from the likes of Fanatec and Moza.

If using a PC pile onto Steam while there's a sale on and get Assetto Corsa, Assetto Corsa Competizione, and any add-on tracks/car packs that appeal. The latter is also on Playstation IIRC, as well as Gran Turismo.
