Looking at an iPhone that Apple no longer sell….& CEX have a “mint” condition one (with 5 year guarantee, although I wouldn’t be surprised with many T’s & Cs with that!) at a fair price.

Wondering what experience anyone has with using CEX for an expensive piece of tech?

I've used them twice. Both times what I bought arrived quickly and exactly as described. I'd happily use them again without hesitation.

Mint is basically brand new as far as CEX ratings go. Bought from them plenty of times with no issue. If you’re buying online you can return it if you’re not happy as well, plus you have the backup of physical shops you can go to if you have an issue.

Having bought and returned items online that were either incomplete or unserviceable, I wont buy from them again unless I've checked the item physically in shop before paying.

Their approach to returns is poor and combative (may have been an asshole in a specific shop to be fair but regardless, I wouldn't trust them with a high value purchase online)

Bought from them a few times, always in store and have had no issues ever, never had to use the warranty though.

I've bought 4 or 5 phones from them over the years and had zero issues. I normally try and find one in a store locally, so I can physically look it over but, if that's not possible, I'm happy enough to order online.

I usually go for Grade B as, to my eyes, they're not that far from shiny and new.

I bought a memory module for a laptop from my local one and when it didn't work (stopped the laptop from powering up), started to have the same issue - they wanted to send it off and have it tested, and give me a refund if it was faulty. Then someone else - maybe a manager - came over and told them to just issue the refund. It wasn't expensive, five or ten pounds or thereabouts, so maybe that was the difference. I've bought other memory for my desktop from the same place without any trouble.

Thanks for all the replies - I think I will bite the bullet!

(next up will be where best to sell mine (12 Pro, 512GB) once it’s transferred…the fact it has (just) under 80% battery will limit it, but I’m sure I will get something!

I bought a used Apple keyboard that was described as "Grade C" and it was virtually immaculate! Much better condition than I expected for the price
