Got a new works laptop that came with no manual or details of what was ordered.

It's got this inset bit on the touchpad - anyone got any idea what it is ?

the touchpad appears to be ignoring it.

The inset on the laptop's touchpad is a sticker indicating that the area is also a clickable zone.
This design is common on certain models of Dell Latitude laptops.
The entire touchpad surface can be used for cursor movement.
The sticker is purely informational and has no functional purpose itself.
