Switched broadband .. should I keep a spare router

I know nerdy folks keep a spare of everything .. but is it normal to keep a spare router? Touch wood I've never had one go wrong once it's been setup and running for a few weeks. Mind you it's only £65 if I don't return my hub to **.

You can use a spare one as an access point to extend your wifi range if you need to.
But for £65 I'd definitely be returning it - you can buy a much better third party one for that purpose as the ones you get from the ISP are generally pretty crap.

If they’re going to charge you, just send it back.

For £65, You can get a reasonable enough router at Curry’s / CEX / Amazon that would be of likely far greater capability, and not hampered by the usually horrible user interface / feature restrictions of an ISP router.

I do tend to keep a few around being an IT Chap, mostly for experimentation / hoarding purposes, but I can only think of one case where a router has actually failed, and that was a bit of enterprise kit at work that was bricked by a bad firmware update.

That sounds sensible. Obviously with my 1.5 directorships and £xxxxx monthly cashflow burn the £65 isn't a deal-breaker but I like to keep a tight reign over IT expenditure inside Fido Ltd. About to upgrade Office 2007 to Office 2021 so this should recuperate some of that expense.
