Monitor is dead, what to replace it with?
Discussion
this is my current monitor (until it decided to RIP itself).
its 27", 1440p, 99%sRGB, 1000:1contrast, 350nits, 60hz
I got it for free via work when covid hit. I pair it with my work laptop when WFH, and my home laptop (legion 7) when not working. Overall I have been happy with the screen sizee, it's image quality and 1440p resolution. 60hz might be a little slow for if i want to game on it (not competitively).
I can't figure out what to replace it with.
On one end of the scale my brain says get a 27" OLED, MSI ones can be had for £400-500.
On the other hand I could replace it with a 34" ultrawide that's IPS and calibrated at factory. However there's so much choice I don't know where to look, and I need this for work (so can't mull over it for 1-2 weeks). Bear in mind the monitor it replaces is almost 6 years old, so I'd imagine almost any IPS screen will look better than it (but would a VA?)
Thoughts? I know how nice OLED looks, 10years ago i used to have a del XPS with an OLED screen and it was the best screen I've ever used.
Budget of no more than £500. I could easily spend more but to me this seems frivolous. when I'm not working my current usage is watching youtube videos, and live gaming streams. But I would like to get back into casual photo editing/lightroom again. if there's something that ticks both boxes (OLED + ultrawide) then i might consider it.
edit: i realize now that miniLED ones are affordable now too.
