Anyone got any ideas? Its on ios 26.
There is about 12gb of spare memory.

I am clueless when it comes to apple stuff (its the mrs's). Its been in daily use for maybe 6-7 years or so - no issues.
Last few days its been going slower and slower to the point it takes time to even scroll through the settings. Do CPUs die on these?
Is there a way to see the basic stats of whats going on like in windows task manager?
Cheers

Nothing to add apart from my iPads only seem to last 3 years before needing replacement.

At this point they are more or less a consumable.

I’m currently typing this on a first-gen iPad Pro that will be 10 years old this Autumn and still performs perfectly well for my needs, so I cannot concur..

Depending of the apps... I get 5-7 years from mine for regular use (surfing, mail, youtube, a bit of video editing)

I’ve had iPads since they first came out and they last a long time in my experience so sounds like a software/app issue.

If you go into your settings/battery and check if there there are any apps consuming an unusually large amount of power? What is your battery health percentage? Obviously power the iPad completely down and restart as well. It’s the nuclear option, but if all else fails you can do a complete factory reset of the ipad, which usually cures any software issues.

Obvious stuff first, have you restarted it ever? Might be worth trying in case you've got any software glitches.

Is there any difference in performance if on battery vs wired?

She does restart it once in a while - maybe every couple of months.

When this issue is happening I have rebooted it and it does seem to come back to life for a few hours.

Will check if its battery / wired only.

No idea on battery health.

Will have a look at all that later.

No idea what you are doing to them, I still have a 1st gen Pro that is fine along with a 3rd gen Pro that is also fine.

To the OP I would be checking battery health first, it that is all ok then looking at the apps that are on there, since the "vibe code" scene arrived there are some geniunely st apps clogging some devices up that are full of bugs and memory leaks etc. Also check for 3rd party keyboard stuff.

Afternoon all,

I would suggest backing it up (to iCloud or your computer), then plugging it into a computer, finding it and hitting ‘Restore iPad’, to install the firmware again as a clean start.
