When did this happen?. I just updated the apps on my iPhone. 27 in total, averaging about 300mb. So that's ~8gb of app updates. Absolutely bonkers.

“The average size of iOS apps is approximately 23 megabytes”

Are you sure they are 300mb each, maybe that was the total

Last few of my app updates,

Pay by phone=198mb
Amazon=245mb
Gmail=770mb
Uber=418mb
Merlin Bird ID=377mb. 2gb!

Going to need a bigger memory or off load some apps soon.

If they're just updates, then they're probably only replacing the original app anyway, so the space usage may remain more or less the same.

Today's updates were (installed app size will also include cache/mail files):
  • Night Sky - 1.28GB (installed app is 1.35GB)
  • Gmail - 770.2MB (installed app is 1.92GB)
  • Signal - 169.9MB (installed app is 188.7MB)
  • MS Teams - 452.9MB (installed app is 444.8MB)
  • Telegram - 148.7MB (installed app is 240.2MB)
  • Shop - 117.6MB (installed app is 132.8MB)
  • ProCamera - 83.7MB (installed app is 81.98MB)
  • LinkedIn - 417.7MB (installed app is 476.0MB)
  • what3words - 222.4MB (installed app is 276.3MB)

Night Sky presumably has a massive database. But LinkedIn is pretty much a browser, surely?

It does, but I'd hope the database wouldn't have to be updated every time they fix a bug or add a new premium feature (or remove a long-standing free feature) to the app.

I'm always curious about these updates that always have to 'fix' bugs. I undderstand if its a new app, but how crap must the original app must be to constantly require updateing? Surely what they mean to say is 'we need to update to add even more dodgy trackers and ads' ?

I also confused as to why my iPhone has at least some app updates every day, but my Mac rarely does.
