I’ve used Android all my life but I’m thinking of switching to iPhone. People say iPhones last longer and are smoother, but Android gives more freedom and cheaper options.

Is the difference still big in 2026?
Or has Android caught up enough that switching isn’t really worth it anymore?

Would like honest experiences, not just brand loyalty answers.

What ‘freedom’ do you want specifically is the most important question I guess.

iOS is locked down and what you see is what you get. And it gets more useful if you have more apple devices as they all work seamlessly.

Android can definitely be had cheaper.

iPhone if you want simplicity and longevity

Stay Android if you enjoy tweaking things or want best value/features

But with Android you need to get a decent one as the cheap phones are cheap.

Apple values hold much better.

I use the iPhone as it just works better, Im not interested in tweeking it, I just want it to work as intended

Do you have other apple stuff? Mac? iPad? If so it will all work really well.

I have to use iOS for work, however personal is Android, I wouldn't have an iphone as I find it completely unintuitive to operate, unlike Android.

There's nothing I've found that Android is missing, and I find my Pixel takes much better photos than iphone.

YMMV, but there will be a steep learning curve and you'll have to relearn your muscle memory.

It's the opposite for me.

In a household of mostly Android users (different phone manufacturers though), and I find every one of them has a slightly different layout or method for doing something that should be standardised...and every single one of them has somehow managed to install multiple 'memory' or 'storage' managers from somewhere.

BTW, I started on Apple Macs in 1989 as a DTP operator, and have used almost every incarnation of Apple machine and OS for work and leisure (currently have a M4 Studio Max), but I also have discrete Windows PC for gaming only!

Besides a Commodore PET, VIC20, BBC Micro at school in the early 1980s, my computer career started on an IBM System 36, then AS400, then XT PC in 1988 training as a COBOL programmer - which didn't go anywhere as recruiters thought I was too young for a serious role.

Having been Android and then iOS, I find the seamlessness of the walled garden to be compelling.
Mainly because iPad is better than any Android tablet AFAIK - functions, reliable, battery life. And it hotspots onto my iPhone without me touching anything.

I do travel with a MBA but also do use mostly Windows at home. And linux.

In the end, I keep my phone for 5-6 years. So if the iPad hits that cycle for renewal then I look around.

Don't forget your current investment in Apps is lost (parked) if you move. Not really ensttification but near enough....

The gap between a budget phone and a premium one is a lot narrower than it used to be.My 3 yr old Samsung cost £200 new and does everything an expensive one can do, albeit the camera isn't as good but still perfectly capable.
There's one feature I couldn't do without and that's circle to search from the home button, even iPhones can't do that

iPhones have had circle to search for a while now.

I didn't say they didn't but they have to go through another app first, I can search whatever is on my screen with one touch

No apps needed just volume and power to take a screenshot then circle what you want on it.

Android
Iphone

Iphone
Android

Both

Neither

Either

And

Or

Whatdda you want to do, how much you willing to pay, how much fiddling do you like, which brands do you like, what's your kids, mum, granddad's uncle using, are you a cheapskate, are you trendy, what car do you drive, what shoes do you wear...

Just the one extra step then..... it's the one feature where "android just works" smile

iPhone just works. For certain values of works. It's fine for almost all use cases, but there's occasionally something that android does better.
Personally I find that notifications on Android are more granular and be tweaked to be just the way you want; on iPhone it seems to be more all or nothing.
Of course, the other side of the argument is that it's significantly more work to get it set up the way you want on Android.

To begin with, install a browser that can block ads.

You still an ld likely never will be able to do this properly on apple products.

I'm sure there is a lot more but that is pretty basic and a huge show stopper for me.

Plus I like not being Apple's bh.

We’ve used the iPhone practically from day one, they’re just so much user friendly. The wife got a Samsung from work recently and I find it difficult to get the hang of. Could be just me being a bit of a dinosaur but I’ll be sticking with what I know.
Though the maker of the new 17e chips is a concern especially if they end up in all the new models.

It would take a period of adjustment which ever way you change especially if you've been using 1 for a long time

I'm not particularly pro/anti either, having had both iPhones and Android before, but just on the browser point, one of the first things I did after being given my wife's old iPhone Mini 13 was to install Brave, which seems to work fine
