What am I missing here?

My ipad pro 11 was stolen from my workplace a few months back & I'd like to replace - when I can afford it!

Like many, I have an issue buying tech gadgets that are not new & been in other peeps grubby mitts biggrin

I am tempted however to buy an Ipad Air 13" M3/M4 or Ipad Pro 13" from CEX with their seemingly reasonable 5 year warranty.

I'd much prefer to buy new from somewhere like John Lewis - but might as well save a few hundred'ish & go with CEX along with what is basically an extended warranty!

Anyone had cause to use their warranty?

Only had to use it once, on an Xbox One for one of my young relatives.

Bought it, and after about 14 months it started to play up - which is not unusual for this relative as they leave the game discs out of their cases on the floor. But we tried it with newer, undamaged disks and it would not go more than about 3 minutes without shutting down or rebooting (probably overheating).

Took it to the local CEX and suggested they run some diagnostics on it, but they simply replaced it with another off the shelf. Whether they repair and re-stock that machine I don't know, but that seems to be they way their warranty works.

I did the same with an Xbox as well, they tested it then just gave me a new (used) one, no drama.

This has made me think.

A five year ‘free’ warranty on a nearly new iPhone makes more sense than buying direct from Apple or major retailer.

I’ll seriously look at this when I need to upgrade.

Warranty works fine.

After either 6 months or 1 year, the money back price reduces to whatever the value of the product is at the time rather than the price you paid for it.

Bought several bits of Apple kit from CEX. Never had cause to use the warranty however.

In fact, I’ve never seen an iPhone or iPad fail despite having managed thousands at work. The only ones that stopped working were dropped or simply the battery being worn out after years of abuse.

Yeah I have had very few hardware failures throughout life, but ironically, the stolen ipad pro was a warranty replacement from John Lewis due to the USB-C socket failing to charge, or barely charge at all..

I love CEX both kids many phones are from there, no issues in several years

Two raspberry pi's chugging away as I type from there no issues

HOWEVER

The one and only time I ever tried to use their warranty it was pointless...

Stores are franchised it appears so you have to be return to the same one

Insist on receipts even after you've proved otherwise

Go to the far end of a fart to prove you've broken it!

I gave up, cost more in fuel in the end!

TLDR love CEX warranty probably worthless!

You can use Cex online.

Then where you bought it is irrelevent.

Got my Rarz Ultra 60 off CeX, barely used, half price. 5 year warranty. Nice.

All this stuff is obviously baked into the operating manual as it's exactly the same as the original store was 30+ years ago, when it was just the one grotty store stuffed with piles of junk and newer stuff of dubious provenance.

Pricing model, receipts, returns, the lot, all the same as I remember back then, just slightly tidier & shinier stores.

Still some interesting stock though and sometimes some keen pricing.

Still can't believe that people have ever wanted to sell their own legitimate gear to the place given all the alternatives without the comedy offer.

Can you clarify what the product was & whether purchased before November 1st, 2022?

Are you really getting a good deal there? When I pass by the window everything seems overpriced especially PC parts.

My phone wasa cracking deal, £550, like new vs £900 at the time (now £800), and several Raid HDDs at the best price I could find.

Surely any drive can be used in a RAID?

Indeed - but some are sold as more RAID "suitable" - better MTBF, certain access statistics etc. Whereas some are sold as more suitable for security video recording. Might be nonsense, who knows.
