Anyone gone from iPhone to android?

How painless did you find it?

Currently got iPhone er, 12 I think. I like the look of the Samsung galaxy Fold 8. Expensive buying outright but what isn’t.

Wondered how easy to transfer photos, contacts what have you.

I went from a iPhone 12 Pro Max (or whatever it's called - I forget) to a Fold 5 then a Fold 7. Samsung have a tool called Smart Switch that connects the two phones and transfers everything across. Don't recall anything meaningful being a problem. However, a lot of my data is in Google or MS OneDrive, which means

Moving WhatsApp is a little trickier because you can't do it with Smart Switch but through their own process.

For what it's worth I don't regret the change, but with Apple's fold phone potentially imminent, you may want to hold off for a bit.

So long ago that it wouldn't be relevant now . iPhone 4 to OnePlus One. Stayed with Android since (but I do have an iPad and I've been a Mac user since getting one for university).

A youtube channel called Thinking differently, has a vid from 2 weeks ago where he did this very thing, going from a recent iphone to a recent android phone, and explains the processes and pitfalls, and what he did and didn't like.

I've gone from one to the other on a few occasions over the years. It helps if you use Gmail etc as you can sign into your google account on any phone for email and contacts. I believe WhatsApp is ok now and you don't have to backup like you used to. For photos, I use both iCloud and Google Photos for some redundancy and download them all from Google on a regular basis. Your iPhone can sync to Google Photos in the app so that's no issue either.

I went from Apple to Android about 8-9 years ago. First week was really weird and frustrating but then I loved it once I got used to it. I think the android ecosystem, software is fantastic. It's good to have a large selection of manufacturers to choose from and android is a huge operating system which is worked on by thousands.

The phones are exceptional, both the lower cost ones and the flagship ones like S26 ultra or the new Samsung Z folding phone

Did it once years ago and it was a painless transfer, but the interface was hard to get used to for me when I'd be a die hard apple user for some time.

Likewise over time and various updates the phone noticeably slowed down to the point where I had to wipe and rebuild again, which was the main reason to move back to an iPhone. This could well have improved now.

The good news is that if you used gmail, chrome etc it worked perfectly. I recall going to HK years ago when I had my android device and the hotel I was staying in provided an android device as a in room phone which you could use while staying there, logged in with my gmail and it was setup within minutes as my device and could use this freely while there, internet, calls etc.

I once came away from apple for the HTC 1 with built in speakers by Dre.

Phone was technically far superior to the iphones of the time but i just couldn't get on with the Android OS. Absolutely hated it. Info transfer was easy as anything, even way back then. but it lasted a month, then i sold it on ebay, took £400 loss on it and was back to an iPhone the month after,

I attempted earlier this year. A 13 Pro to a 25 Ultra. I tried a couple of different cables but the smart switch wouldn't work wired for me, so did it wirelessly which moves less data. I think it would have taken me quite a while to get everything back, but not horrible.

I ultimately decided to return the 25 Ultra as there was a known problem with blurry pictures that I only found out about after it had arrived.

I am still tempted to switch to Android but more wary now. The other issue is small things like having findmy and airdrop. I may just resign my self to another Apple device.

Quick Share for Pixel devices plays nicely with Airdrop and Android has an equivalent to Find My and you can also access iCloud to find iOS devices.

The problem is I don’t want a pixel device. Their flagships just don’t get very well reviewed. I hear the same thing may be going to Samsung.

I’d actually quite like to switch away from Apple just for a change of scenery but it has to be to something just as good.

The S25 ultra was a really really nice device.

I did, and a year later was back with an iphone. I've had work Android phones since and I hate the whole Android thing. I guess people are wired differently but I find the Iphone so much easier to use.
