I'm thinking of getting the Sony Ericsson W800i or similar. How good are these at playing MP3s? Are they a decent substitute for an iPOD mini/nano?

Loads of the have MP3 players these days.

My SPV500 is perfectly good for listening to tunes on.

Perhaps slightly compromised if comparing with a dedicated music player but fidelty passed a certain point I would say isnt a deal breaker.

Ive got the K750 which apparently is the same phone different software and minus the bright paint job and extra speaker.

Its pretty damn good at MP3's I reckon even with the rather poor Sony supplied ear blobs ( the W800 has better ones ) and as good as any stand alone mp3 player to my ears. You'll have to budget for a bigger memory stick though as 512mb doesnt hold a great deal.

And my SE P910i also does a more than adequate job of playing mp3's - and video as well.

I have a Nokia 6230i, it was free and MP3s sound fine, I don't have an Ipod etc but wouldn't think that they're that much better to warrant buying another expensive gadget to carry around/charge batteries/update etc - and you can't make phone calls on an Ipod.

I've got a W800i as as a dedicated music player, cannot fault it. Only things to consider are:

Get a bigger memory stick - half meg/8 albums is not enough really.

Change the earphones - the phone can produce a lot more bass that they can handle.

No point buying an Ipod when this will do the trick just as well (memory being the obvious exception...)
