I was in the pub on Sunday afternoon having the usual banter when the subject of the Israeli and US attack on Iran came up, I offered my own explanation of events and the conversation moved on.

An hour or so later a message popped up on my phone from someone who I’ve never heard of and who is not in my contacts, the message referenced what I’d said in the pub!

I haven’t responded and all I can find out is that this person works in sales at a company called Cybiza who apparently have something to do with streaming music. I’m at a loss to understand how he’s got my number and can’t believe it was someone ear wigging in the pub, as we were tucked in an alcove and the place was pretty much empty. Any ideas?

A message on my iphone via contacts, all rather bizarre but no phone number just a name and email address. I haven’t responded but blocked.

Most of us have microphone access turned on for WhatsApp - which is owned by Google. I assume there must be some sort of connection given how often many of us are targeted on subjects we've only recently talked about.

I am not that bothered, but Mrs NDA mentions these constant 'coincidences' and I've wondered how it might happen.

It can through as a text message, not WhatsApp or email. Sorry if it wasn’t clear.

Is it an email/name of a person you know?

I ask that as although im not sure how it happens, I sometimes message my brother to the mobile number and the replies comes from his email address and I have a separate chat for the phone number and email.

importantly, the above is for iPhones.

Yes I get that and have experienced the same, but this was a personal message remarking on one of the points I had made in our conversation about the ME conflict, it was semi critical of my opinion, suggesting it was a simplistic view and out of context it probably was (a simplistic view), but all very strange.

I had a call yesterday supposedly from Amazon, Indian sounding bloke tells me I've ordered an iphone for £799 and the order was placed in New Delhi.

Logged into my Amazon account and there it was in the basket. Deleted it whilst on the phone and went back into my account and it was back in there.

He then sends a WhatApp message with a verification code to say he's from Amazon. All looked legit.

He then says I need to go into Google Play and download Anydesk to allow him to access my account.

At this stage I'm 1) pissed off that I've had my account hacked and 2) I'm not downloading something on this bloke's say so.

He then sends an email saying he's for real. A proper Amazon address with another verification code.

He then starts getting stroppy and a little 'unprofessional' and then realises he 's not going to get me to download the app. He then hangs up.

I must admit, this shook me up a little as to the lengths these fkers will go to. He also had my Amazon buying history, and the last four digits of my payment card, as well as access to my account to keep putting this iphone in my basket which I could see on my tablet.

Gave me the right hump for the rest of the day. s!

Be careful out there!

That occurred to me, but the name is random and there’s an email account as sales@cybiza.co.uk

Not that it’s important for the discussion, but WhatsApp is owned by Meta. smile

I’m not sure how relevant that is, but I was quoting an article by a former NATO Group Captain who posited that Lyndsey Graham had persuaded Trump to support Israel. Netanyahu was becoming increasingly concerned that the riots in Iran were proof that the sanctions were working
and that regime change was imminent, something that could threaten his grip on power.

The text response was a brief summary and a suggestion that it wasn’t that simple, which I actually agree with, but the message has spooked me. It may well be that I’m having my leg pulled.

Phones don't listen to your conversations, unless you have voice assistants enabled, in which case they just listen out for the trigger words.

Any post-conversation serving of adverts/content is due to other tracking methods through normal web browsing.

To OP - someone is taking the piss.
