Changing mobile number and 2FA?
Discussion
Anyone gone through updating 2 Factor Identification when changing their mobile number?
I'm thinking of asking '3' to change my mobile number due to receiving lots of spam calls, I think someone has passed my number out, but that;s immaterial.
It got me thinking about 2 Factor Authentication with websites and banks requiring me to input a code from a text they've sent when I log in, but when I change my number I won't be able to log in to update them with my new number, as they will send a text to my old number.
I know most of these websites will have a 2nd means of contacting me such as email, but I'm sure one day I'll come across a website that only has my old mobile number.

They'll have a process it's the hassle factor.
Do you have an iPhone? Recent versions of iOS have call screening where if a number calls that isn't in your contacts you can drop or screen it.
Presume Android has something similar.
Only mention it as a new number feels like it's just kicking the can down the road until that one starts getting called.
And of course where available they want you on OTP/Authenticator or passkeys.

If it's a SMS authentication then it will be as simple as updating your phone number with that organisation.
How simple that is will depend on the organisation you're changing it with (I.E. your bank). Most will have a procedure to do this even if you've lost access to the old number (people get their phones stolen so it'll be a well trodden path). It may be a bit of a hassle as Stewie pointed out.
