I note that several PAYG sim only plans insist that you have to make a call or text at least once every 180 days to keep it active.....
I have a Volvo V90 which says that in order to get the full use of the Sat nav system.... traffic delays, suggested reroutes etc ( how i could have used that on the M25 on Friday evening!!) It has to be tethered via a sim to get Wifi

Now the problem is this sim i have ( at present a Tesco PAYG... cannot make call or texts.. so how can i overcome it... apart from diggiing in the depths of the rear compartment, pulling out the sim card, sticking it in a spare handest, and making 1 call , then replacing it

Is there an easier way? and would tethering eat into the 10.00 credit i have on it at the moment?

Would a sim only 12 month contract with say Lebara at £4.50 a month for 5gb of data work?
