Help

I have a 3Com wireless router - 3CRWE754G72A - My PC can talk to the router and my friend in Stockton can ping the router but, although the router connects to Pipex, and I can connect to the router, I cant connect to the internet. I can ping my mate. I am using I.E.6. If I connect the ADSL router, supplied by Pipex, directly to my PC then I can connect to the Internet. Any idea's?

Thanks in advance

Dave

OK, on your network card, set the default gateway to be the IP address of the router. By the sound of it though, it already is. On IE, make sure it's set to never dial a connection or dial when the network is not present on the connections tab. Make sure you're working online

When you say you can ping your mate, is he in your house, or somewhere on t'internet?

Sounds to me like your DNS settings are wrong. try putting http://195.225.218.139 in your browsers address bar. If that brings PH up, it's definitely DNS.

Assuming W2K or greater, connect to t'internet using pipex. Start > Run > CMD

Type ipconfig /all and note the settings. You may need to manually enter the DNS settings on your network card.

I have a "3Com OfficeConnect ADSL 11g Firewall Router" (Seriously, that's what's written on it) and connect through PIPEX without issue so I don't think it's a compatibility issue.

In the 'DNS' section of the 'Internet Settings' part of the router, ensure that 'Automatic from ISP' is ticked. This will ensure your ISP configures the router correctly.

In 'LAN Settings' ensure that DHCP is enabled.

Now, on your PC, go into the TCP/IP setting of the network card you are using to attach to the router, be it wired or wireless. Make sure that it is set to 'Obtain an IP address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server addresses automatically'

At this point I suggest you restart the router then restart your PC and see how it goes.

I have the same router and had to add the DNS IP addresses from my ISP (Plusnet) into the web interface manually. The automatic options didn't seem to work. May be worth getting the details from your ISP and having a go if you haven't got it working yet.
