In XP Pro - Recently formatted.. no problems until I tried to log back on after locking my computer

I go to the logon screen to lock use of the computer until I return (Windows key + L), then try and enter my password an it is wrong.
It is the correct password and in the correct case, but still identifies it as incorrect?
The only way of solving this is by restarting my computer?!

This is a strange one, never seen anything like it before.

Any help V much appreciated!!
Dave.

Silly question maybe, but is the username being shown when you try to log back in correct.

It is at the moment on fast user switching.. the graphical way of changing users instead of the login box where you type a Username and Password.

The password is all loower case a-z..

Can't understand it!
