Something I've never been able to fathom with my wireless router is how to change the default admin username (which is blank).

I can change the password ok, but obviously would like to change the username as well!

Any idea

Hi Chris,

I've got 15 of these routers so you'd think I'd know the answer!

However, I flash all mine with a different firmware the minute the come out of the box, but there nothing in my firmware that takes a username.

When I telnet to mine I always use a root username, and the https session I run also use that name too, so at a guess I don't think you can.

Just make sure you use a secure password and you should be ok.

Just spoken to their tech support over a chat window (very efficient!)

You can't change it!

If you seriously need to do this then you could consider running an alternative firmware -

I run SVEASOFT Alchemy on all of mine, it's free, and provides a wealth of other features that you may or may not use.

Since alchemy provides you with telnet and ssh into the unit which is essentially running a small Linux OS, I guess you could then add other users.

However, as mentioend, I use a 'root' username login on all my units so disabling/renaming the root user would likely cause problems.

Just curious now, but did you want to do this for security reasons or was there some other motive?

cheers
