Can I email or send text to a mobile phone ?
Discussion
I've sold a customer A pc based digital camera recorder.
Upon movement on any camera the pc will send an email & also a picture of the event.
Now my mobile phone will send emails, but wont receive them.
Are there any network providers that let mobile's recieve emails or is there a web site that can recieve an email & forward it as an sms text message ?

O2 will do that in theory. You can set up rules on you inbox so that if it receives certain text it will send an SMS message.
I am on o2, and have a pop3 inbox on my Nokia 6680, so can receive and read emails. It doesn't say, "you've got mail" though until you go into it.
AFAIK T-mobile have a facility to setup an inbox using your number. So if your number is 0712 345 6789 then your email address would be 07123456789@tmobile.com

I'm also on o2, and can send + receive my yahoo! email on the phone, a sonyericsson W800i, I think all sony ericssons have this facility. You can also set it to check for email automatically at regular intervals, be it 5 mins, 30 mins, 2 hours etc.
do you know what the settings are? i have a samsung d600 but it has email support, but i dont know the in. and out. settings or anything else for that matter!
if you could give them to me i would be very grateful

I'm with o2 on an XDAIIi and can send and receive emails with various accounts. You'd need to set up the incoming and outgoing mail settings differently:-
incoming = your ISP pop setting, eg - pop.tiscali.co.uk
outgoing = needs to be set to o2 settings - smtp.o2.co.uk
also you will need to add your ISP username and password or you won;t be able to login to your ISP's mail server to download a copy of your emails.
When I check my emails on my PDA, by default it leaves a copy on my ISP's mail server so that I can download all the emails to my PC when I get home and I won't have missed any. Just make sure that if you leave your PC on at home, that you don't have your email client downloading emails automatically or you won't get any sent to your PDA/phone.

If you are on O2 you can also use Mmail (212 service)

Brilliant, they even come through as an SMS text with an audible alert.
Next problem, I can send texts to the phone, but it does not accept photo's, I'm trying to send it a 120 x 90 pixel picture (3636 bytes)
Any ideas please ?
I haven't found a way of sending pics but you could send a url as part of the message and use a the "use details" feature from within the sms on the phone to go to the web address of an uploaded pic
Hadn't read the bit about sending picture with email on original post

Thanks Niel, the customer's more than pleased with the text, the photo would have been a bonus.

Sorry, I don't. If I need to check my hotmail account from my pda, I login directly to hotmail.

I don't think you get a pop account on hotmail (I may be wrong on this) If I'm right and you don't then there are no pop/smtp settings available as its webmail only.
