I use supanames and easily at the moment but I'd liek to buy a few domains, not to put a site on but just to own and maybe point to another site. What is the cheapest provider and can I transfer domains from them to someone else for free?

Thanks in advance.

roadie

Edited to say: www.freeparking.co.uk looks good - does anyone have any experience with them?

AFAIK we (Register1) Offer the cheapest .com .net .org in Europe (and most of the world)

£5.48 for .com .net .org and .uk (for 2 yrs)

Click the banner at the top for more details.

Transfers are free (you simply pay for a renewal.. this is a registry imposed condition)

'Quite a few' fellow PH'rs use Register1

One of the most powerful control panels in the business (i've not seen a better one), yet still easy to use.

Feel free to drop me a mail via profile if you need.

I'm yet to find anyone as good as Register1.

Be VERY careful as many big companies charge stupid amounts to transfer away (£50+) but Register1 do not.

Thanks guys, I have checked out Regiuster1 and their prices do look extremely good. I also liked the look and prices of the Virtual and Dedicated Server packages as many of my clients go for hosted solutions these days. Sadly in most cases I don't think I'll be able to use these packages as I would need full access to the server - i.e. VPN, etc.

Another question if I may: How long after a domain owned by someone else has expired (i.e. they have not renewed their ownership) must pass before it becomes available for purchase? I have my eye on a domain that appears to have expired a few days ago - could this just be a delay in the records or is it actually likely it hasn't been renewed?

Cheers.

roadie.

I personally like namecheap.com as I can 'preload' my account and just buy domains as I need. Oh, and they do paypal too!

Typically 60-90 days, depends on what registry (.com .co.uk .org etc)

Interesting. Are you saying I can install whatever I want on there - e.g. MS Exchange, a website, SQL Server, etc. and I just tell you the base OS installation?

Sure as hell sucks running it over a satellite link though

Please can we have a super light-weight version?

Great, I will bear this in mind. We would effectively be acting as a reseller rather than purchasing for our own use - do you have some kind of business/reseller account function? Also, what kind of infrastructure do you have in terms of UPS, security, etc.? I have had a look aroun but I can't find any info on this so apologies if I'm wasting your time and all this is already covered!

(Please let me know if you'd prefer we took this discussion offline or if you want to email me anything)

Would now be an opportune moment to point out that my mail forwarding from click-next.ie is not working to click-next.com?

Seems that everything for .ie lands in the admin box @click-next.com and doesn't get put into the relevant user's box on .com

Probably should take this offline as it's OT but I do like to see my admins squirm a little

Its forwarding, not relaying.

you can setup custom alias forwarding inside the control panel for .ie to point specific users to specific mail boxes.

By default they just forward to your catchall account as per the default settings

Squirming is for those who don't know their apples!

That's great Jamie, thanks. I obviously missed the Reseller link but I don't feel so bad about not finding the serverstream page. I'll bear your service in mind - I already have a couple of candidates in mind so I'll email you through your profile as suggested when the time comes.

Cheers.

roadie.
