I have an ipod which is connected to an Alpine head unit via an Alpine ipod adapter. It has an annoyance which means if set to "mix all" on the headunit, this setting has to be reset if the head unit is switched off. Also annoying is that it sets the ipod itself to "repeat all" after it has been in the car - even though I did not set it to repeat.
Does anyone else have the same issues?

Mine does exactly the same (iPod Photo in case the model makes any difference). Scrolling through lists is very slow too (and is not proportional to the speed you turn the dial).

Same problem here. Really annoying, as is most of the Alpine interface. Another one is, why the hell does it not remember the last artist/album you selected so that when you go back in the menu, it doesn't start at the top of the list again.

Anyone checked for a software upgrade for the Alpine - apparently you can update the firmware on the HU by downloading it and burning to a CD then holding some buttons down while powering on the HU. Haven't tried it though.

That reminds me....

I think a lot of the problems lie with the HU not having enough RAM to buffer the lists into and provide a better experience.

I've taken to having a playlist called __Car (_ makes it appear first) and dragging a few albums into it to listen to before most drives.

Ah well, at least it doesnt mean mine's duff, but then it does mean the interface is crap. I agree the speed of scrolling makes it pretty unuseable, and usually quicker to unplug and scroll on the pod, or just stick to random.
I haven't tried the updater - had a quick look on the website when i bought it but looked like you could only download sound configs, which seemed pointless to me in a convertible.
Would be interested to hear if you download anything useful....

Hmmmm. I had a look myself for the software updates but couldn't find anything. I can't remember where I read this now
