Hi people.

I have Norton Firewall and anti virus, all up to date, regular scans etc etc.

Yesterday, I had a hard disc crash. Lost everything. (essential things backed up - photos etc). The error message said 'error on disk drive', Never got as far as any Windows or Dos screens on boot up.

Recovery disc inserted, I re-formatted the HD, and got it all working, reinstalled Norton, updated it, did a scan, reinstalled outlook, and today sent two e mails.

I just heard from one of the e mail recipients that he downloaded my e mail, turned off his computer and when he tried to re-boot he gets the error 'Operating system software not present'

Is that a coincidence, or is my system infected with a virus that Norton can't detect?

Just done another scan - no problems detected.

Thanks for any help.

What came clear to me the other day is that Norton isn´t that reliable after all. I downloaded McAfee and found several Trojan Horses on my computer. They hide compleately, stay in the memory, seal the information, hides the size, can start an event on your pc. Those are real tricky. And I happen to have the latest Norton version and pay for it, so you can imagine how this pissed me off really.

Probably co-incidence. Most virii don't kill your computer (especially immediately) as it inhibits their ability to replicate and spread as they can't do that on a dead system.
