I've just built myself a new pc. (tower, mother board, chip, hard drive).
But for some reason I can't now play dvds on it. The dvd driver is also new (pioneer 110d) it played ok in my old system but for some reason I get a message "Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a problem occurred with digital copyright protection." I get a simalar message when I try it with Realplayer v10 and Nero.

I'm assuming that I've installed something into my old pc that I've not installed to my new, but I'm not sure what?

Have you installed any DVD playing software on it? I think you need some software such as PowerDVD before Media Player will play DVDs.

This has also occured to some people who have installed the latest NVidia Gfx card drivers, if your card is a NVidia card uninstall the current drivers and download older drivers to test.

I've had similar problems when doing a clean rebuild. For some reason durring the install the region code was changed to region 1 (US).

The thing is, it doesn't do it all the time. If durring the install of windows you forget to set one of the regional settings at the config section, it will reset the region code on the DVD drive. Fine if it has infinite unlocks, bad if it doesn't and you end up stuck on the wrong region

The region settings are correct, and i'm running the onboard graphics card.
I've not downloaded any software on my new pc, I guess I must have downloaded the codecs to my old pc without nowing it, probably before I even got the player.
I put the player back in my old system to test it but it had stopped working on that one too. For some reason I had deleted Realplayer, I'm thinking the codes might have been in there.
I'm looking into getting powerdvd, lots for sale cheap on ebay.

Download the trial version of Powerdvd. It'll install the codecs for dvds, thus allowing you to play it in Media Player.
