help - cant log on after terminal crash
Discussion
Hi
About two hours ago my (other) PC froze. A long story short:
'ntoskrnl.exe missing or corrupt'- I fixed that with the emergency repair disk, then.....
'driver IRQL nor less or equal' - fixed by removing my sound card, but.......
now when it gets to the 'applying security policy' box, it gives the error 'the system cannot log you on now because the domain XXXX is not available' and it asks me for a password which has never been setup (win2k SP4, no remote admin policy), hence I can't log on - so close yet so far!
I've tried all the combinations in the advanced startup menu - all in vain. Google and M$.com wasn't much help.
Can anyone give me a useful prod or am I looking at a total reinstall?

I think they all have admin passwords, unless you're on 98 or whatever. It could be that it's default, although I'm not sure what a default password would look like. I guess it wouldn't let you get away with that from a security perspective.
You could try l0pht crack or whatever it it. That'll get you the password from the password file, assuming that you can see it somehow.
